Killykeen Forest Park, Lough Oughter

One of Ireland’s best known fisheries and a prolific water offering the opportunity to catch bream, roach, hybrids, perch, gudgeon and pike. The “Forest Park” bank is most comfortable and you will be fishing from a grassy bank with an easy cast- whatever method you choose – into four metres and more. There is also the narrow cut where the effect of River Erne reveals itself with a fair pace of water where a stick float and running line will catch plenty of roach all day long. Access to the chalet stretch (around the rocks to your left when facing the bank) is on foot along the track but the bream fishing can be rewarding for those who make the effort.

Species: Bream to 4lb, hybrids 3lb, roach, perch, gudgeon and pike
Best baits: Sweetcorn, casters, worm and red maggots. Groundbait is pretty much essential for a good catch return.
Popular methods: Pole, swimfeeder, straight bomb, waggler and a small stick float Local tackle shop: Spinner’s Tackle Shop, Main Street, Killeshandra
– telephone 00353 494363877

Access: Very good through forest and within an easy walk to a comfortable bank. Directions: Off the R189 road, 8kms from Killeshandra and 2kms from Crossdoney, take the L1530 signposted Killykeen Forest Park. After about three miles there is a sharp right hand bend – and to the left the opening lane to Killykeen Forest Park.
