Gas Lake, Castleblayney

This deep water lake at the head of the Lough Muckno system has outstanding stocks of hybrids, bream, roach, perch and pike that can be caught on almost any method. The fishing platforms are comfortable and safe – and rarely occupied. It is a water that needs plenty of feed going in and it pays dividends to pre-bait if you want the biggest hybrids and bream. There are two floating landing stages that anglers are welcome to use. Local advice Advice is available for customers using the Lakeside Angling tackle shop shop with directions to more fishing spots on the lake.

Species: Lots of hybrids, roach, bream, pike and perch.
Best baits: Worm, red maggot and caster.
Popular methods: Pole, waggler and groundbait feeder.
Local tackle shop: Tackle Box – call Les on 086 4075695

Access: Easy access at various points. The easiest is from the R181 road with parking space within yards of fishing platforms and jetties.
Directions: If you arrive into Castleblayney from the direction of Dublin, turn right at the T junction traffic lights, drive 300 metres and then bear left along the R181 for about half-a-mile and the lake is on your right. It is also possible to enter Lough Muckno Park and turn left until you reach the bridge. Park and walk across the bridge on to the shoreline.
