The Fishing – Lough Ree
Lough Ree is 17 miles long and a vast water that is home to some enormous fish of most species. There are pike that have been described “like railway sleepers”, bream to 7lb, specimen roach and hybrids that are 3lb and bigger. This is a lake that can truly make your angling dreams come true.
There is a small private marina with boat/engine/lifejackets to hire but you are also welcome to use the boat without engine on request. The proprietor, Owen, is himself an experienced fisherman, knows Lough Ree well and is a keen conservationist. Athlone, on the banks of the Shannon is just seven miles away but Glasson Village is very near and has very good pubs, restaurants and a small supermarket. Boat hire and engine is included in cost.
