Lough Ree is a brilliant fishery. Here the bream, roach, hybrids, tench and pike, provide terrific sport, though to get the most from this lake it is best to organise a guide or hire a boat locally. Otherwise turn inland, where there are always plenty of room and a great variety of fish from many famous venues such as Lough O’Grady, the renowned Bridget Lough, along with reliable Doon Lake and a dozen more to boot!
In June 2005 four anglers – led my top guide Mike Daly – caught over 500lb big bream, roach and hybrids in under fours session that left each one of the lads unable to lift their nets from the water.
