Lanesborough power station to close in late April

The bankside power station will be closed down for maintenance work from late April for approximately three months. It is a severe blow to all anglers because the warm water discharged into the River Shannon attracts huge numbers of bream, hybrids, roach, tench, pike and perch, that can provide brilliant sport.

I have been speaking to a senior engineer from the Electricity Supply Board (ESB) who says that it is highly unlikely that the power station will be closed before the third week of April. It is something of a reprieve for the avid fishing fans of the Shannon’s most famous single stretch of river, because the original information suggested early April.
